Most cliched event in History
What do you guys think is the most cliched event in all of history? Like, if history was a work of fiction, what would make you roll your eyes and call it crappy writing?

I think something to do with the King coming back in time from the Crusades with his army to save the day.

Hitler ordering for his units to stop at Dunkirk (Yes I know it was actually suggested by Gerd von Rundstedt and Günther von Kluge but Hitler actually ordered it)
This one decision let 340,000 Men get away that would go one to fight and train soldiers and boosted the moral of the British by the success of the evacuation.

Re: Most cliched event in History
It is the year 1281. Genghis Khan had carved out one of the largest empires the world had ever seen. His grandson, Kublai Khan, now set his sights on Japan.
Kublai Khan’s previous invasion, in 1274, failed horribly. He only brought a relatively small force of 23,000 men but they were defeated by the united samurai clans. While withdrawing, the Mongols were hit by a typhoon and most of their ships sank. Accidents happen, right?
Well, for his second invasion, Kublai didn’t want to take any chances so he brought no less than 140,000 men spread out over more than 4,000 ships. Part of this force sailed out from China and the other from Korea.
After a series of small skirmishes, the Mongols were unable to find suitable beaches to land since the Japanese had fortified most of the coastal lines with two-meter high walls. The Mongols were thus forced to stay afloat and wait for an opening.
Guess what happened next!
The Mongol fleet was hit by one of the biggest typhoons in history, called kamikaze (divine wind) by the Japanese.
So yeah....there ya go boi.

The Napoleonic Wars. To think one man could conquer that much, with that much outsider influence. Crazy.

The damned Bronze Age collapse. Everyone was toppled by some unnamed civilization we know nothing of that, as far as we're aware, didn't even utilize the land left over to build an empire.
I know there's already a thread about this but shh

The French Revolution, I mean seriously ?
Pissed peasants mass joining the army and going on a rampage spree across europe ?
I'd call it bullshit or cheesy writing if that didn't actually happen.

Battle of Britain. A battle between people defending democracy from aggressors where most kills were scored by people coming from countries previously occupied by said aggressors would sound like something from Cold War era American propaganda if not for the fact that a) it actually happened b) it wasn't against communists.

Re: Most cliched event in History
I'd also say the creation of the EU. Who would have thought it would happen after centuries of wars and rivalries between states? After a war as devastating as WWII, it was virtually impossible to do such a thing, but… thanks to some men ("Fathers of Europe": Monnet, Schuman, Italian Prime Minister De Gasperi and German Chancellor Adenauer) they managed to do it, and even though it's very criticized these days, it's an outstanding achievement regarding history.

The United Nations. I mean seriously, would you want to join a group with all of your enemies who were trying to kill you just a few days earlier?
Honorable mention to the League of Nations, because it did the exact same thing. Only difference is that (like you would expect) it broke down after a few years because you can't be friends just like that. Gosh, countries, get your act together! And then you do the exact same thing right after someone tries to destroys the whole world? Do you ever learn? I hate stories that make everything all happy out of nowhere like that.

Irish Rebellions... For like 700 years we just kept doing it, getting fleets from Spain (landing in fucking Kinsale) and fleets from France (Badly Damaged in a Storm), then guns from Germany (the Aud got sunk), which shows how the Irish rebellions were always so similar: Work with UK rivals > Country we work with messes up > Fight the Brits to the death anyway.
I mean it worked in the end so hey there's that
