Which is your Favorite Pre-Gunpowder Warrior Class
Favorite Pre-Gunpowder Warrior Class
Ancient warriors classes have intrigued historians for centuries, and personally they were one of my initial fascinations when i began to seriously become a student of history. Which of these warrior classes is your favorite? If other feel free to comment who your favorite is not on the list.
Note: I know that some of these warrior classes existed when guns were around, but i listed them because the weaponry they used was pre-gun era technology.

Re: Favorite Pre-Gunpowder Warrior Class
Personally, I think things like the Spartan Hoplite or Samurai are overrated. Just because there are legendary things written about them, doesn't mean it's all true.
A Samurai couldn't stand a chance against a Knight with plated armour and spartan hoplites (and their army and government in general) were never the same after they were conquered by Philip II. of Macedon.
I picked other, since I think the truly most efficient and definately my favourite warrior type is *drum roll*
The cataphract. Whether it be byzantine, sassanid or sarmatian. These were the tanks of antiquity and could steamroll everything.
On the other hand, they would be pretty useless in mountain ranges.
But let's just ignore this little inconvenience, shall we?

How was the cataphract more efficient then the knight though? To my understanding the knight was influenced by and an improved upon adaptation of the cataphract developed in europe via the Byzantines.
