The armenian genocide
Yes, the armenian genocide that took place from 1915-1923, where armenians, assyrians and pontic greeks were killed and robbed of all dignity while the major european powers did not move a finger to stop it. Please, be polite.

Re: The armenian genocide
The Armenian Genocide was a horrific process that is too often overlooked when people discuss the First World War. It is appalling that modern Turks continue to deny many of the atrocities committed by Turkish authorities during that period. People need to be more aware of the severity of this genocide so that others like it can be avoided.

Re: The armenian genocide
Recognition of the genocide has been a pretty thorny issue considering Turkey's status as a strategic US ally in the Middle East. They've successfully prevented the US government from officially recognizing the tragedy in any official manner. Obama promised to do so in his 2008 campaign, and he managed to break that promise through all of his eight years in office.
Personally, I think the time is now. President Erdogan has used a rigged referendum to all but destroy Turkish democracy and is making inroads against secularism in general. He is re-approaching Russia. Relations between Turkey and Europe are as acrimonious as they have ever been.
(Good article about Turkey breaking from the West)
Our relations with Turkey are beyond salvaging. It's time to take the opportunity to fulfill America's duty as a moral republic. It's time to officially recognize the genocide.
