Best and worst history documentaries

Post by Cold War Communist on Fri Jul 14, 2017 6:52 pm

Hey everyone,

I am currently halfway through the WWII in Color history documentary and I have to say, it is one of the best I have ever seen insofar as keeping it objective and forward. As a result of my affinity for that documentary, I decided to make a thread dedicated to the topic of documentaries: the best and the worst.

Just to clarify, this discussion can and should pertain to any documentaries you know of. They can include topics on any period of history, and persons or events, or anything else related to history. I look forward to viewing the responses!

Ken Burns' documentary over the American Civil War is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen.

A History of Russia: Tsars and Revolutions is a good documentary but it does miss some important events in Russia

Ken Bern's documentary about the American civil war is a really good pick. It's very interesting, I watched two thirds of it in one day. The only reason I stopped is cause by annoying little sister and her friends grabbed the remote and changed to another show. So yeah, you can tell it's really good.

Ken Burns documentaries (my favorites being the Civil War, Prohibition, and Horatio's Drive) and the Walking With series from the BBC if you want some good prehistory.

Evolution of Evil is the worst. This series is the epitome of what unfortunately many history documentaries have fallen to. Far too much dramatization, overly preachy, very little knowledge outside of what is already common knowledge on the topic. Older history channel documentaries from around 1998-2003 are a good bet that it will be an informative and watchable documentary.
