Oceania or Australia?
Australia is often considered to be the continent in the south east area of the map. But I hear people as well consider it Oceania. I would like to know what the official term for it is.

Australia is just the country, the real Continent(Oceania) includes New Zealand, New Guinea, Australia, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Samoa, etc, etc.

Australia could be used as a continent name, but that really only includes the southwestern part of the region, whereas Oceania refers to everything in the Pacific from Australia and Palau to Hawaii and Easter Island, so I prefer Oceania because it makes sure every country and territory is part of a continental grouping

Oceania all the way. Australia is just a country, and it excludes New Zealand, New Guinea, Palau, etc.
I think officially, it doesn't say whether Australia or Oceania is good (I've also heard Australasia used before too), it's mostly a matter of personal preference. Personally, I go for the one most inclusive, so that's why I use Oceania for that given area.

I usually say Australia when I want to refer to that particular country, or New Zealand (when necessary). Rarely do I find myself discussing Indonesia, so there's no need to group them all together and really throw people off. At least in my experience and social circles.

Indonesia's generally considered part of Asia though.

I have always lumped it in there with New Guinea and Australia as part of Oceania. You can't win every time.
(I'm admitting I'm wrong, if you could not tell)

Oceania. There are all kinds of islands not connected by land to the Australian landmass, so it doesn't make since to refer to the continent as Australia.
