Reconstruction 2.0

No one can deny that the South is poor, if you look at a list of the poorest states in the United States of America you will see that a large number of them are located in the South. So the question is what do we do about it? How do we help the south get out of poverty? Do we instigate a Reconstruction 2.0 similar to The New Deal? Do we increase Education spending all across the board? I don't know but we ought to do something to help out.

Part of the problem is that the South is usually resistant to government help unless it's as extreme as the Great Depression and they're desperate. Heck, reconstruction ended because the South made a deal to allow Rutherford B. Hayes (as a few states were really close to call and could have recounts) to be president in exchange for him ending reconstruction.

In Germany we had the same problem with the east of Germany after Cold War. Socialism destroyed east Germany over 40 years. The solution was a solidarity tax every west German has to pay to the east for rebuilding until now. Now east Germany is as industrialized as the west and there are nearly no differences anymore. The difference of Germany and the US is that north and south is still political devided. Maybe the government should cooperate more with the south or give them some privileges.

Only some states like Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi, have poor economies, other states like North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Georgia are quite wealthy. In fact, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina are in the Top 10 in terms of GDP. Although all former CSA states only contribute 28.65% of the U.S GDP, not including former slave states that weren't apart of the CSA, like, Kentucky, Missouri, Delaware, Maryland, and D.C. Their are some problems with wealth inequality and poverty though. Not to mention some states that I mentioned have major natural resource production, especially Texas.
