What if the US had a communist revolution

I know, as unlikely as it was, what if the US had a communist revolution? How would it have arised, any specific event or legislation that might have cause it? Would the new communist US have a new name, system, flag, and anthem? Or just be ideologically different? Would they associate themselves with the Soviets? Let me know as I kinda wanna write a paper on this as a gift for my high school teacher and I wanted your guys' opinion before I wrote it.

Well unfortunately I do not know what would of caused it but 100% there would of been a new flag, a new name, new political systems and anthem. Seeming as the US would of probably become Nonsecular and tried to remove aspects of nationalism in there populace. Off course the populace itself wouldn't of been too happen with the change so propaganda would become a huge thing trying to push left wing policies and the such.

Now depending on when the revolution happened would affect diplomatic affairs with other countries. If it happened after America warmed up to China they would of probably grew closer together maybe forming a faction and the such. Whereas if it was before all this they might of warmed up to the Soviets both supporting each other in times of need.

YET! This all comes down to policy and who is in charge, seeming as there are many different types of communism it could come down to the Communist US hating both the soviet union and china or preferring one over the other due to the system of communism in place. They might even stop international affairs all together instead trying to perfect the US overall.

Overall i would have to say that it is very hard to say what would of happened and how it would affect the world without given a scenario, type of communism, date and views of the person in charge.

Well for type, we could say...hmmm.....Marxsim-Leninism as that is the "classic communism" in my mind. For date, lets say...1972. Also I did some research and the story could be that Gus Hall (the General Secretary for the Communist Party of the USA) might have won the presidency in 1972 as he was one of the candidates for president (He actually ran in real life!). Gus also supported Marxism-Leninism, still though...there is the perdicament of why?

We could say that the public what outraged that Nixon planned to start a bombing campaign on the northern vietnamese, since the public was already unhappy about the war, or that the US would fratenize with the communist chinese (I know they aren't very good ideas but I'm trying ok!)

The US and the Chinese Communists were very close already. With the American Sino relations though.

Here's my far-fetched but fun idea for a US defeat in the Cold War. Hope you like it!

My point of diversion would be Ford narrowly defeating Jimmy Carter in the 1976 elections. Ford goes headfirst into the horrors of the late '70s, but with less popularity to begin with. Just as in our timeline, the US economy was a wreck, the military was weak and drug-addled, NATO was imploding, Vietnam was lost, and the Soviets were emboldened. After Ford's disaster of a second term, the Republicans break from him as hard as they can and nominate Reagan for 1980. But the voters aren't ready for another GOP president after Ford, so they vote for the Democratic nominee, the man who had it right to begin with, Jimmy Carter.

Carter is unable to fix the economy or rally the American spirit. Even worse, his weak foreign policy is put up against Yuri Andropov, who senses this vulnerability and begins a new age of Soviet aggression. George HW Bush wins in 1984, but he overcorrects, launching several doomed American expeditions into the Third World, even as the American economy continues to suffer. Thousands of Americans die to no end. In 1988, Americans once again vote out the incumbent, replacing Bush with Dukakis.

Late in 1991, after years of American weakness, the Soviets manufacture evidence of West German wrongdoing and invade NATO. Dukakis is reelected in '92 to fight the war, but things go badly. West Germany collapses, France and Belgium desert, the UK is locked out of Europe, and the Greeks and Turks are too busy fighting one another to care. With no allies left, and with thousands of Soviet missiles aimed at American soil, Dukakis accepts the new world order.

In 1996, Ross Perot launches his insurrection, winning a stunning victory over Bob Dole and Bill Clinton. His administration is unsuccessful, and he faces criticism from another prominent third-party voice. Noam Chomsky. While receiving backing from Senator Bernie Sanders, Chomsky criticizes the Americans Cold War policies, noting how they have failed to contain totalitarianism, and how they have killed so many. Amidst high unemployment rates and a stagnant economy, Chomsky narrowly wins the election of 2000 with Sanders as his running mate. Votes in Michigan are contested by George W Bush, and the Supreme Court rules in Chomsky's favor. They quickly go about deescalating tensions with the Soviets, but don't quite make friends. US anticommunist activities cease. Despite being an anarcho-syndicalist, Chomsky behaves like a standard socialist. Either way, he is roadblocked by Congress and largely rules through executive orders. He remains popular with the lower class, winning him the 2004 election as well.

Politics grows more and more volatile as Chomsky continues his agenda, and many states begin ignoring his laws and as Chomsky begins to ignore the Supreme Court. In 2008, Bernie Sanders wins the presidency, but government officials and SCOTUS block his attempts to take the oath of office. Matters have reached a breaking point. With no president in sight, several southern and midwestern states follow  Mike Huckabee's plan to vote for their own president amongst themselves. Turnout is very low, but they choose John McCain as American president, who manages to take the oath in January, 2009. Even with Congress on his side, Chomsky's supporters take over many of America's states and follow Sander's leadership. In 2012, two separate elections reelect Sanders and sweep in the more aggressive Sarah Palin. Once again, Palin manages to take the oath of office first, and she finally relocates the nation's capital to Denver.

A year later, she declares war against Bernie's America. Violence is intense on the east coast, but the threat of nuclear attacks results in a rapid peace deal in 2015. Bernie's states secede from the Union and become the Socialist Republic of America, while the Pacific states, due to geographical concerns, split from the Socialists and form the Pacific Commune. The 2016 elections see the US electing Ted Cruz and the Socialists electing moderate candidate Barack Obama. The Pacific Commune rules itself through community councils. Meanwhile, the Soviets rule the increasingly unstable Warsaw Pact, which France eventually joins. Tensions are high between the Soviets, all of the Americas, and the Chinese. The United States has grown harsher and less democratic, and the left wing is all but driven into extinction. The Socialist Republic sees a happier lower class, but its economy rapidly slows down, resulting in the Great Recession beginning in 2017. And no one truly knows what is happening in the reclusive Pacific Commune, as Hollywood now produces nothing but propaganda.

I loved the above story by Duce, but I was thinking we could have a few different scenarios, maybe we could try out the idea of Gus Hall winning the presidency, and if you wish to help could you maybe help me find a reason of why he would win the presidency, or maybe a revolution starts in a major city somewhere?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I gotta say, though, I'm not sure how to get Gus Hall into the White House. I genuinely don't think anything short of a full Soviet invasion could have seen that happen.

The Red World mod for HOI4 gives a point of divergence where the US suffers a total loss in the Korean War, followed by another humiliation in Vietnam, followed by another Great Depression. It ends with years of rioting followed by a full dissolution of the US in 1987. It's also where I got the idea for President Chomsky.
