The Struggle Between the State and Federal/Small vs Big Government

How has the Struggle between State and Federal Government defined the United States? What side are you on? How has it effected history?

States all the way. Germany, Switzerland, and northern Italy are successful, in part, because they existed as dozens of independent, small, close to the people, governments that were able to be kept in check by the local population.

Southern Italy is the opposite.

How has it defined the United States? Legally, militarily, economically, socially. There is no one way to answer that question. As far as what side to be on, it depends on a number of issues regarding the topics listed.
