With the coming referendum vote (September 25, 2017) in Iraqi Kurdistan, what is your opinion on the possible new state?

Well, the Kurds voted in favor of independence from Iraq, but Iraq rejected their appeal. Looks like Iraq isn't going to let them go so easy.

My opinion is that if it weren't for Turkey, Kurdistan would be a fait accompli. The Iraqi Army probably would not be able to defeat the Peshmerga in a civil war, but if the Kurds aren't careful, they could wind up under Turkish occupation on the Iraq side of the border too.

Hopefully the Syrian Civil War will give the Syrian Kurds an opportunity to establish a state of their own.
