A place to discuss British History, from the Roman's rule to the Norman Conquest of 1066 to the English Civil War. Britain has had a huge impact on the world by wielding the largest empire in history and through the key role it has played in modern history, through the industrial revolution and more recently in both world wars.

Henry VII is probably my favorite monarch from Britain even though most people only know about his son. Henry VII had almost no connection to the throne but managed to not just win a war against a guy with a legitimate claim, but how he handled the war (declaring himself King before hand so he could legally execute those who opposed him after) and how he still managed to rule with such an authoritarian hand is well, amazing.

British Colonial Policy in a Nutshell.

In America: Having Money Troubles? TAX THEM SOME MORE--*American Revolution*

In India: The Indians were good Sepoys...But one rumor and THEY LOSE THEIR MINDS!

In Africa: Not bad to be honest.

What I've always found interesting about Britain is the fact that one event completely changed the course of its history and culture. Had William the Conqueror lost at the battle of Hastings, everything from the form of government to its foreign relations in Europe to even the English language would be fundamentally altered. It is one of the only times a single battle would change the course of a country's history so much.
