Ludwig II of Bavaria
Ludwig II of Bavaria is (in my opinion) one of the most criminally unknown monarchs of all time.
^ This is the guy ^
I'm posting this to raise awareness of this wonderful, yet batshit crazy fella
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_II_of_Bavaria
^Here's his Wikipedia page^
In summation, He ascended to the Bavarian throne as a young man mid 19th century, but was plagued with mental health issues his entire life. He was a patron of the arts, and instead of running his country he'd spend his royal wallet on building fairytale-esque castles. Because of this, he 'earned' the title "Fairytale King." Slowly but surely the Prussian state and the Bavarian people restricted his castle-building escapades, and by the end of his life he was basically under house arrest. If his story wasn't already interesting enough, he drowned mysteriously in lake along with his psychiatrist. No one is really sure how he died. As bonus, he was also probably gay.
A couple months ago, i got the privilege to tour Bavaria and visited a couple of the castles Ludwig built.
^ This is Neuschwanstein, and the view off of its back porch ^

Thank you for your time, and remember to spread the message about our boy Ludwig

Re: Ludwig II of Bavaria
Didn't he pay Richard Wagner to stay at his palace and spend time with him, because he loved him?

I don't know, man, his mustache is looking pretty weak in that picture... And after all, what's a monarch without a solid set of facial hair?

Thanks for the info and pictures. I oft like to think of monarchs of this character as shitposters who do wild stuff like this just because they have the ability.
"Your highness, why in God's name are you building so many castles?"
"Because I can, Gottverdammt!"

You're right, maybe if he had a stronger 'stache he could've built more castles

Oh I can't believe this. There's a separate section about Ludwig II. My German teacher always talked about that he's done nothing wrong, and she loved him, she went to his castle (Neuschwanstein),and how she's sorry for his conviction etc.
